Legionnaires

Mission

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime Veteran’s Service Organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and Veterans. A large group of Oxford Junction World War I Veterans organized a Post and were granted their charter on September 20, 1920. Wapsie Post 473 has been helping the needs of Veterans and supporting the needs of the community for over 100 years.

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Membership

If you have served at least one day of active duty since December 7, 1941 and were honorably discharged, or you are still serving on active duty, you are eligible for membership with The American Legion.

Benefits of Membership

Your membership gives you and your family practical, money-saving discounts that can easily save you many times the cost of your annual membership dues.

Our nation's leaders speak directly to citizens on the pages of The American Legion Magazine. The Legion's organizational goals are promoted using the words of talented writers, professional journalists, and world leaders.

The American Legion is the nation’s most influential, effective and dependable advocate of Veteran Affairs fighting for better active-duty pay, improved housing for active-duty families and helping to ensure that the VA medical system can properly care for Veterans.

Your membership helps support Department Service Officers nationwide who assist Veterans in preparing claims and obtaining their full military healthcare benefits through the VA.

We meet at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Legionnaire Ballroom,
3397 County Road X64, Oxford Junction, Iowa 52323.
